Cambodia - Germany Parliaments To Continue More Cooperation

Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Ingo Karsten, Ambassador of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia, expressed optimism that the ties of friendship and good cooperation between the two countries, especially the two legislative bodies, Cambodia and Germany, will further flourish in the future.

The remarks made during the courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, by H.E. Mr. Ingo Karsten, Ambassador of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia, held at the National Assembly palace in Phnom Penh in the morning of 19 December 2016.

Cambodia and Germany has had diplomatic relations since the late 1960.

On the occasion, German ambassador Ingo Karsten mentioned about his diplomatic mission in Cambodia, saying he will make more efforts to nurture the ties of friendship and good cooperation between the two countries, Germany and Cambodia, in all fields, especially in the areas of politics, trade and culture.

As regard to the legislative ties, the German ambassador expected that the two parliamentary friendship groups will continue to forge more cooperation and enhance the exchange of experience with each other.He also informed the Cambodian national assembly president that a group of the delegation from the German Bundestag composed of the main political parties is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, which will take place in February 2017 aimed at boosting the existing ties of friendship between the two legislative bodies and countries, and during the visit, the German parliamentary delegation is planned to pay a courtesy visit on Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to exchange views and experience since Samdech (honorific) president is a top legislator of the Kingdom of Cambodia, who has made enormous contributions to the national development.

In response, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, extended his warmest congratulations to the newly appointed German ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, saying that the ambassador’s new diplomatic mission in Cambodia is very crucial to the strengthening of the ties of friendship and good cooperation between the two countries.

The NA president, in the meantime, highly appreciated all contributions made by Germany to Cambodia’s development in many areas, including good governance, land reform, human resources, health care, particularly the promotion of democracy.

He added that working through the parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries, who have enjoyed cozy relations with each other, Germany has provided technical, material and financial assistance to Cambodia through Konrad Adenauer Foundation and GIZ, especially to strengthen the capacity building for MPs as well as the officials of the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly.

Lastly, both sides hoped to further the bilateral ties of friendship and good cooperation between the two countries in the future so as to bring about progress in all fields.
