Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of the APA, emphasized that what the APA is doing is to achieve an unequivocal vision for the next generation to live in peace in the Asian family.

The president made the remarks during a courtesy call granted to the heads of the parliamentary delegation attending the 9th Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Siem Reap province from 28 November to 2 December 2016.

He stressed that even though we have a long journey to go, as the leaders of the legislative bodies, we have the duties to take a clear vision into consideration for our next generation. Therefore, what is coming from our common conscience will eternally last. I am com confident that our sacrifice here will bring benefits for our Asian nations at one time, he added.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly is not different from other international parliamentary organizations, such as Asian Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) and the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), whose central mission are to bring together parliamentarians from around the world to meet in the international forums though parliamentary diplomacy arena.

On the occasion, stating on behalf of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and his own behalf, Samdech President expressed warm welcome to all parliamentary delegates who are in the attendance at the 9th plenary session of the APA in Siem Reap province of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Kingdom of Cambodia of wonder, which is home to the abundance of cultural treasures in Asia, which were inscribed in the world heritage list.

He was optimistic that “a whole host of positive points have been reached and passed within the framework of the Asian family, and what the APA has achieved over the past 20 years has been the Asian great pride since this joint legislative duty has showed the harmonization of all nations in the region.

Afterward, the Cambodian national assembly president informed all parliamentary delegates that the venue of the 9th plenary session of the APA is the former ancient capital city of the Khmer empire over more than two hundred years ago with the abundance of hundreds of ancient temples, covering an area of 400 kilometers.

Lastly, the NA president hoped the parliamentary delegates attending the APA 9th plenary session have a pleasant stay in Siem Reap Angkor.

Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, took over the presidency of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) since 2015, during which Cambodia successfully hosted its 8th plenary session in capital Phnom Penh. The 9th plenary session is being hosted by the parliament of Cambodia under the theme of “Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development in Asia” again at Sokha Hotel in Siem Reap province from 28 November to 2 December 2016.

This regional gathering was attended by parliamentary delegations from 23 out of 42 member countries in Asia. The next 10th APA plenary session will be hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 2017.
